todays meet at 5 Bar Gate. 15/12/12

So I got up a little late and got to 5 bar gate at 0945. The fishing was underway.

There wasn't anywhere free to set up on this stretch and to be honest my overhead thump is the worst cast ever 20 yds if i'm lucky so walked towards Rossall School there the tide was hitting the concrete sea defence and i could cast off the ground.

The Sea was nice and choppy and a few lads had caught some 4lbish cod on low. Set up cast out, CRACKED OFF! WTF.

SO set up again cast out, nothing and the blank continued.

around the the Ebb had a good tug so brought the line in and it snapped great two traces gone on one session!

So set up again. Cast out and still blanking then I caught my second snapped off Rig. I was so happy you'd have thought i had caught a huge cod!

Anyway match over and another Blank.

Got a few raffle prizes so it wasn't too bad. Then after and the tide out a bit had a walk to the bay I was fishing and found my first trace that had cracked off, BONUS.

was using 2 hook pennel pulley 3/0 & 5/0 hooks on frozen black and squid on 5/6oz weights.

It was a good day and good to meet with other like minded folk who are up for a Craic.

I would have been there but it was time with parents this weekend.
I hope everyone had a great time.
I hope to try the beach myself over Christmas.
P

Would you be prepared to tell me about how you baited your squid please stevelisa24.
I've been given some and don't know where to start. No idea how big to make it.
Cheers. P

I (and i might not be doing it right!) put my black on then cut a ring of squid off then cut it so its a strip 1-2 cm deep (depends what type of squid your using but a strip 5cms or so long is fine, fold onto the end of the hook and push it round the hook (this also push the worm further up) then bait elastic the living day lights out of it.

I'll do a pic whilst i'm out tomorrow.

Hope that makes sense
