painting floats'which paint?

Postby grandadruss » 15 Dec 2013, 21:41

Wanted a yellow float today, don't ask me why just did.
All my floats have fluorescent red tips. Not a yellow one in sight.
Some of the floats are also a bit weather worn, good floats but flaking paint.
What paint would be suitable to tart em up a bit?
Was thinking of the little humbrol paint tins that are used on model kits.
Any good for floats and use in water?

Rather than paint them you can get silicon tubing to fit over the tips of your floats and change the colour to suit light conditions, backdrop, ripple etc, making each float more versatile

Dip in, wipe off.

Works on all floats.

Humbrol tins are fine, 'Matt Black' is the best all round colour. Paint everything Black and dip and wipe as required.

Chris..

Humbrol is fine (black is good at times) I used to make Balsa sliders one half black the other white. Just attached either end depending on light conditions via a link swivel. Alternatively any outdoor wood paint works. A bit of varnish over cured paint helps.

You need flourescent paint Russ. This should be available from any good fresh water tackle shop.
To get the best from this type of paint requires a good white undercoat. Do not varnish as this tends to affect the paint over time.

true about the white undercoat unless its black you want. Don't know about the paint you talk of but I have some painted varnished floats here that must be 40 yrs old now
