Not another rod

Postby grandadruss » 07 Jun 2015, 10:26

Up early this morning as ever and decided to have a wander around the little car boot down the road.
Only a little one, about twenty stalls so very rarely any fishing gear.
Most were still unloading the cars as I arrived so I was strolling about just asking."Morning any fishing gear?"
No were the replies :lmao:
Saw Les unloading his car,he's there every week, used to live on the same road when we were kids and we always have a chat.
"Any fishing gear Les?"
"Just one rod Russ,a fly rod,got a tenner on it"

Hardly been used, still got the sticker on the end of the butt.
Slight damage to the end of one section though.

I've just repaired that, some super glue and a coating of uv resin....sorted.
Very pleased with my buy and to get a nice fly rod at a little car boot, well the day couldn't get any better.
Or could it :cheer:
Was looking at the rod and chatting to Les and an old chap wandered past.
He's there every week, must be his little trip out.
"Decent rods Airflo he says"
"You into fishing then? I replied.
Not any more,to old, still got all my fly gear though.
He's got two Hardy Jets and loads of reels,no use to him he said so I'm meeting him at the car boot next week, told him to figure out a price for one of the Hardys and if it's reasonable I'll have one off him.
Might get the two if the price is right and sell one on.
Roll on next Sunday :thumb:

Be careful with your new rod Russ, I had an Airflow Delter a few years back and must have replaced the tip section about 3-4 times, I found it very brittle, but a good lightweight rod none the less.
Changed to Greys after that and never looked back.

Cheers Billy.
I'll probably still fish with the Shakespeare or the Hardy.....love saying Hardy :lmao:
Hardy,Hardy :lmao:
Just couldn't walk away for a tenner.
If it did snap or my repairs no good I've still got the rod tube for future use :thumb:

I found the Airflow rod great to fish with, lightweight with a cracking tip action for casting, at the time each tip section was £27 to replace but I seemed to be replacing them too often, I once caught in a tree on my back cast, on the forward cast the tip shattered into 3 pieces. not that I put too much pressure on it just a normal cast. that was a Delter and it was 20 yrs ago, The one you have might be a lot better. check for any cracks above the damaged bit, but otherwise you have a good rod for £10. good luck with the Hardy Hardy Hardy.LOL

Got away with the damage Billy :D
Sussed out when I bought it that it was a minor easy fix. :thumb:

There was about 16th of an inch protruding past the the guide which had had a knock.
Luckily all the whipping around the guide had prevented further damage.
I could have even sawn the the little damaged area off to be honest but
super glue and uv resin have done a good job plus the next section slides in a good way right under the guide so it's got loads of support.
I think if the guide had been placed anywhere else the damage could have been worse though. :cheer:
