Day trip to Fleetwood - 15/8
After 2 poor sessions on the Gynn Wall Sunday (2 undersized flounders and 3 weavers) and Monday (2 postage stamp plaice and 1 small flounder) the decision was made we needed a change of venue.
After a Steve C and myself decided on a trip to Fleetwood Channel to see if we could catch something other than weavers on peeler crab.
Arrived 2 1/2 hours before low water, overcast day with a coolish breeze.
Steve C doing his impression of the "fishing gnome"
Fished 2 rods, 2 hook flapper rigs (2's and 4's) bait was fresh peeler and ragworm.
Fish from the off - small flounder to crab
Then next cast a nice surprise a bigger brother to the plaice I had yesterday at 36cm again to peeler.
The luck continued with another slightly smaller plaice (35cm) again on crab
By this time I was being sworn at by Steve C as he had only managed a couple of small flounders but I reminded him that it was better than his blank yesterday which elicited another barrage of bad language
Couple more flounders fell to peeler crab and then just before low best flounder (on rag) of the day (29cm) with another plaice (on crab) (34cm)
Then bang on low water little eel on ragworm that didn't want its photo taken
Went dead after low and as we stood there the immortal quote of "it must fish better on the flood" but afraid to say it didn't. Nothing for an hour after low and then I only managed 3 flounders on the flood.
We 3 hours into the flood when the run had picked up and bits of weed started to show,
Ended the session with 3 plaice (all on peeler), 7 flounders (5 on peeler and 2 on ragworm) and an eel (ragworm).
Steve C managed half a dozen flounders but handicapped by only bringing one rod.
