What a difference in a day

Postby Sir Humphrey Rtd » 11 Oct 2021, 13:12

This weekend fished the Gynn both on the Saturday and the Sunday.

On Saturday started cloudy a light south to south west breeze and a slight swell and little to no weed.

Usual 3 rod set up (close, mid and long distance - for me), bit was black, rag and peeler crab.

First cast first fish Plaice and Pin Whiting on loop rig at distance on black.

Next cast came as a nice surprise small thornback to crab on an up/over rig.

By this time thornbacks were coming in up and down the wall but for me the next fish was a dab at mid distance on black.

Another small thornback followed with a few small whiting and then picked up a Dogfish at distance on the loop rig.

Then bang on high water my best thornback of the day about 4lb and not wanting to pose for a picture again on crab on up/over rig

Fishing slowed after high and only caught small whiting on the ebb. So finished the session with a dab, dogfish, plaice, 3 Thornbacks and 9 small whiting. Plenty of thornbacks appearing and 2 of the lads fishing near me had half a dozen a piece!!

SO back down on the Sunday morning and the wall was absolutely rammed when we got down and just managed to drop in a gap between he steps north of the boating pool. Had a quick :blah: :blah: with Shacky and Paul R before the tide hit the wall. Conditions completely changed from yesterday with North Westerly breeze and weed and a lot of wood in the edge.

Same set up and baits as yesterday but nothing for the first hour and then a small whiting at mid distance.

3 Whiting.jpg

This set the scene for the session with just small whiting coming regularly until the last cast when managed a small plaice whiting double as we were

From reports the thornback were still about but being caught at Cleveleys on the Sunday.
