Whats everyone doing

Like everyone I have been cleaning gear, making rigs & buying a few things, one thing I bought was some 60lb braid to use right through without leader, I always find it a bit fiddly winding line onto the spool so I looked at some that where available online which where quite expensive for the amount of reels that will spool, so looked at a few videos on youtube, and rumaged around to find some materials and came up with this

first I tried fixing the reel on with velcro (hence the 4 screw holes) which didn't work, then I found a reel seat on Amazon which came all the way from China for less than £4, and fixed it to an old sink plunger handle.

Put the braid and the reel in place and it works a treat

Them reel winders can be expensive to buy . I made this one about 5 / 6 years ago out of bits I had lying around the shed ,and I still use I.
A old miter block.

a old reel seat of a rod handle.

A piece of square tube.

I your using a Fixed reel . you have to watch the line doesnt start to twist and tangle has your filling your spool.

It's surprising what you can find when your in lockdown

Here's my cheapo rig. I use a old glass rod to fit my reel onto and the new spool fits between the large washers. Tighten up the nuts till the spool is firmish. Then the outer nut is tightened and this stops the spool from becoming loose when I'm winding it onto me reel (the nut tight up to the rig bracket is araldited to the rig, so I'm only tensioning and nut locking from one. Rig is made from some off cuts of dexion shelving and I had a spare piece of threaded bar that I had in stock (B&Q).
I stand about 6' away from the rig and wind on my new spool, which is under tension by the spring.
