Following on from the success of the Splash Down Lead Gemini have designed the 'Solo'. It utilises the same secure hook locking system which ensures that even big baits stay clipped until the trace hits the water.

The beauty of the 'Solo' is that it can be used with any sinker so no matter what type of lead you like to use you can now take advantage of the superb splash own release system. Thought this piece of kit was going to be another gimmik but was wrong there. Usually you find that with the normal splash down and other gimmiky pieces, no matter what you do,you find that you sometimes have to reset your hook because you have accidentally dropped your trace,which becomes tedious after a while.
Not with this ingenious bit of kit ! Once you have it locked in place it stays there and only comes off when it hits the water and thats every time.
Its neat, small and tough. If you attach a Gemini Swivel Link to the weight end, the weight can be quickly added, as the actual weight end if this gadget is quite stiff and will not take thick wire leads. The link swivel goes on easy, even with cold hands, but don't worry it will not come off easy.Besides, attaching a swivel link, helps to stop the shock leader from twisting in flight.

It depends on the type of rig you want to make. I find the Full weight with this clip is expensive and if you want to Rotton Bottom you lose the lot instead of your Two Spark Plugs that weigh together 5 oz as you weight.
They do not make Long Wire Weights with this system, so with this single piece, you can do what you want, even using Flattie Weights etc .When Fishing Rough ground I Take Spark Plugs and if not available a very small screwdriver drill and drill a small hole into a flat round pebble as my weight, truly great, and your not spending a lot on lost rigs. Yes I think the single clip is better.

Be interesting to get a wider opinion from members on these-several members tested them earlier on in the year with mixed results. I seem to remember that those using flat back leads like the Namix ones were getting a lot of failed releases,VERY frustrating to sit + watch the tip for 20 mins when the hook's still attached to the clip + confidence knocking.
The theory of them's excellent but is it possible that tight up behind a chunky flat back lead that there's a possibility of the water flow not hitting the release hard enough??
I'd like to hear other people's experiences on them as the brief report on here seemed a little negative

This is correct they don't always release with the flat back type leads , due to the lead displaces the water .....

Surely if you were using these you wouldn't need a 'flat back' type lead as the clip will protect and streamline the bait... so you can get the same effect as a lead with build in clip but with any old lead - isn't that the idea or am I missing something?

The clips aren't as chunky as say a breakaway shield so there wouldn't be quite that much protection for the bait,being flat the plate on the clip's designed for maximum resistance so on splashdown it catches the full force of the water + is pushed back.If they need to be set a long way behind the lead body it it kinda negates any streamlining effect.
A few people using them reported failed releases with other leads apart from the Namix too,some went as far as to say they had little confidence unless the clip was set way back from the bulk of the lead for example on a long tail wired lead,so I guess the question is whether theyre 100% reliable when theyre behind the bulk of any lead as opposed to the position they sit in on the dedicated Gemini leads.
Nontheless,being the punter I am I hared to Gerry's to buy some this aft. Hopefully Ill give 'em a run out on saturday night, theyre a cracking innovation for OTG casters,we'll just have to see how they perform on regular leads-nothing worse than matching a tip for 20 minutes only to find the bait still tightly clipped to the rig when it comes in

Yes Blanko, Your Quite Right,
But don't forget like any new piece of Kit, Opperate the sliding clip numerous times to wear the plastic and metal a little before you use it, this kind of lubricates the clip. I went flattie bashing using wishbone rigs small hooks and it released every time with a 2 oz flat weight. If that doesnt work, lubricate the clip only once with a drop of Rocket Fuel, you won't have to do this again ,ever.
