5 go to Caernarfon with Andy onboard MorganjamesIII

“I’ll get to yours around 0400hrs” I tell Dave. “What for we’re not fishing til 1015hrs” was his reply. Unlike some this was music to my ears, a nice normal start for a change. On the way Dave said there’s only 5 of us now, “an even bigger brucey bonus” I say. The trip over to Caernarfon was uneventful; we did it in just 2hrs, so called for a spot of breakfast in the layby just before the roundabout.
It was a cracking day slightly overcast with no wind about 190C. Can this day get any better? At around 1020hrs we were on our way. Well that’s what we thought, after about 5 mins there were some yuppies waving at us from their yacht, they needed a tow because their inadequate outboard wouldn’t power them WITH the tide??
After the recue we were soon on our way again. Plan was to anchor up for an hour or so for rays and tope after a brief stop to feather for mackerel. Due to there being only 5 of us we all (even Dave) feathered for about 30 joeys in total, they were scarce indeed. Once on the mark Posh Michael showed us the way with a stream of weird and wonderful doggie rigs, well I assume they were doggie rigs cos that’s all he was catching.
I then had a good bite and a small run, on reeling in my bait had been severed by what looked like some nice sharp teeth. So there may be a tope or 2 about we all thought, Dave then had another one of his ‘phantom’ runs again it resulted in nowt. Mean-while Posh Michael was banging out the doggies in the VIP section of the boat, all we kept hearing from him was I’ve never caught a Ray ever.

The VIP section.
It was soon time for a move to try another mark for Rays & Huss. It was only a few minutes and we were again fishing at anchor. It was the same story here just dogs for those who kept small baits on.
Our next move was back to the 1st mark where Andy said we’ll drift at about 1 knot of some rough ground for Rays, tope and may be Huss.
Scruffy Michael was the first of us into something different at this mark with a nice thorny of 5lb I think.

I then had a knock, gave it some line, as I did this Posh Michael said he was into something other than a doggie. I started to reel in and was also into a nicer fish. Eventually we both boated a thorny each. Mine was 6lb 5oz Posh Michaels I can’t remember but Dave will put weights up.
A nice thorny double

We moved again to continue the slow drift with just dogs n the odd whiting coming aboard. Then again I had a different bite only to leave it a bit then lift in to an ok fish but it spat the hook after a couple of turns, so I dropped back down and waited for the Huss to take the bait. I was rewarded with this 6lber my 3rd Huss of the day the 1st 2 being a 5lber and a mini Huss.

Really clean markings and as you can see the water was like glass.
Not the best day fishwise afloat but a really enjoyable one, with the banter at its best as it always is. I think we all had a turn throughout the day. Nothing bigger came up although Scruffy Michael did have a double figure Huss follow his bait up but it didn’t take it. So again I prove to be scruffy Michaels bogie member by catching the biggest fish again.
Dave will have the scores, thanks for reading.
