With this being possibly one of the best plaice seasons in living memory, I thought what the hell, let's give it another bash. The tides were just right, in the 7 metre range, and this could be the last chance before the frosts push the fish out into deeper water before spawning.
StevieG picked me up at 8.30am on the dot as planned. We had hoped to be on the beach by 9.30am to catch the last of the ebb, but we fannied about as per usual, having bacon & egg barms, followed by a bit of shopping in Morrisons and then Gerrys  as you do  so we weren't surprised when we looked over the wall and saw plenty of bodies in the distance at the low water mark, all in the best spots I hasten to add! :fishing:

We quickly set up and had a butchers down the beach, not a bad turn out for an impromptu session with Blanko, Mac, Paul O, Matty, Ash, StevieG, myself and a Lee from Manchester who'd read a few of my reports and fancied having a bash :thumb:
The weather was pretty fair, considering the forecast was for 16mph swesterlies, and there was hardly a ripple on the water, but we knew that would change once the tide turned.

The other lads had already caught a few on the ebb, so me and Steve were keen to catch up, as was Mac who turned up just after us, cursing the long walk out! The tide had just started to flood so anticipation was high.....

Ste was first in in our group with a small plaice...

Then Mac pulled in a nice fish.....
Image

My first two casts resulted in double shots of pin whiting  and I was beginning to think , here we go.....another day like the match, when I pulled in a decent fish of my own.....
Image

From then on in, as the flood got into full swing, it was a fish a chuck for me coming to my frozen black lug......
Image

Image

I had a wander down the beach for a natter with the other lads, I think everyone had caught and was pretty happy with their session

Paul O with 3 keepers for the pot....
Image

Lee from Manchester who assures me is going to join AA ;) I think Lee said he'd never caught a plaice before so he was well chuffed with his session...
Image

A few of the lads called it a day, with Lee Paul & Matty leaving as the water was pushing us up the beach fairly rapidly, probably due to having the wind behind it. They hadn't left long when I pulled in a triple header of a dab and two nice plaice..
Image

The fish were feeding hard as they came over the bank onto the flats..

Eventually once the tide reached the flattest part of the beach, it became too much effort continuously walking back with our gear, so we knocked it on the head happy with the day. I think I ended up with 8 plaice, 1 dab and 6 whiting with the biggest plaice being 36cm, happy days!

It was a good turnout, and superb fishing in great company.......and it never rained either! :thumb:

Well done boys, great day out for you all. Not sick at all at missing the opportunity at bagging a few spotties... Still, Marks and Spencer's was nice.. and it didn't rain there either.

:gp: :gp: Great report + pics Dave :gp: :gp: , finished up all on my Todd at the pipeline end. Did you see those lot push-netting up there? Looked like a 1st ever go and they were amusing themselves with a handful of shrimps. Great fun :thumb:

Nice to see the channel produced all the way along,I think the lads between us had to knock off or they'd have had more, it actually didn't rock as it normally does up my end .Once again all the fish I caught were a long way out and a bloomin struggle with 3 hook rigs.

Cracking treble there, you know theyre on at least when you've 3 decent flats like that. (But a single 5 pounder would knock the proverbials off them eh? ) There's been a great run again since the hot weather left, god that killed it this summer , never thought I'd be glad to see the back of the 25 degree heat!!! Just been missing an odd stunner among the 1-2lb stock. A pic of a 4-5 pounder would have sent it crazy but they've just been a good consistent above average size. Should be glad theyre not all 15cm stamps though I guess :thumb:Ill piggyback on here with my pics ,I've just gotten knacked and can't manage a thread!!!

Now go get the Cod ....................................

Several good mobility places along the prom............ ??? Ill have a bagfull of that,be great steaming up + down the beach, mind you back in the 80s we used to get bogged down in the Sinclair C5s they hired out in front of where the Ranch House is now so it might end in tears. Plus the insurance might be prohibitive :lmao: :lmao:
