Fishing Behind the Power Station is now BANNED

I feel a duty to share this - Shame the fisheries are not doing enough to make you aware

Heysham Bass Nursery Area Byelaw now in force - all fishing prohibited - June 11 2013

NWIFCA Byelaw 5, Heysham Bass Nursery Area Prohibition of Fishing, has been signed off by Defra and entered into force at 00:01 on 11 June 2013. The byelaw states that: 'No person shall fish for any sea fish nor shall have in their possession any article that could be used for fishing for sea fish in the Heysham Bass Nursery Area or within 10 metres of the shore boundary of the Heysham Bass Nursery Area unless with the written permission of the Authority'.

The purpose of the Byelaw is to properly protect young fish in the Bass Nursery Area, and to promote a greater adult population of bass, increasing supply of sized bass outside the area for both commercial and recreational fisheries. It will also facilitate better enforcement of bass minimum landing size.

Notices will be put up around the area and NWIFCA Inshore Fishery and Conservation Officers will start a program of education and enforcement with fishermen.

Think Rushy popped something on another post but it was a recent post to an old thread so cheers for popping it up prominently Sam :thumb:

Have to say 30 years late but better late than never, wonder how many 1000s of juvenile Bass were taken over those years . ???

As ever as shame it takes out other venues but I think people's opinion of angler behaviour in the area was so poisoned it was only to be expected. Hopefully the fisheries will police it firmly now. And that the associated morons (I can't bring myself to call them anglers) DON'T turn up on the other side on the North Wall !!!!!

End of an era but not a sad end in most people's eyes I think.

About time something was done ...I was sick of hearing about undersize fish being taken....
As Kev say's let's hope they police it properly day and night.

Thank's for posting Sam ..... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

If people are still fishing it obviously it has'nt been signposted well enough and it need's to be sorted by the right channel's.

I still do not agree with the ban. Why not just sort out the idiots and peeps taking undersized fish. I was going to try there this year with my fly gear, guess i could always try for Pike at the basin. Oh i forgot, that's another venue lost.

It IS a bit sad but it'd gotten SO bad down there that most anglers had got to the point where they'd rather see a ban than let it go on.Many days it was downright unpleasant, there was a gang of lads staying locally in caravans and piling on mob handed on most tides, making fishing totally unenjoyble for anyone but their selfish selves. I once quizzed these lot about a bag full (a huge sports equipment bag groaning at the seams as 3 of them tried to carry it between them) and was told to 'mind you own f*****g business' when I asked if the fish were any size .

The fisheries would turn up in the distance and it would look like a 3 musketeers film with all the flashing of blades as undersize fish were frantically beheaded or filleted to destroy evidence of undersize takes.

We only went a handful of times in recent years, the fisheries when they did turn up were woefully short handed and to be honest might as well have waved a 20 foot red flag and shouted 'fisheries coming' through a loud hailer for what it was worth. That or they'd turn up 20 mins into the flood,go away satisfied and 30 mins later the massacre would begin. Though I'm sure hundreds of sensible anglers used to fish there I have to say I only ever saw 1,just 1,single fish returned there in recent trips.ALL others were taken,in size or not.I guess the decent folk just get nicked off with it eventually and don't bother going anymore.

Tell you what though-I BET there's somebody on there tonight fishing!! Thatll be the interesting thing now-will the fisheries actually police it and will the punishment be adequate to act as a deterrent. Theyy claim to have the bodies now but we'll see.

A few years back I'd have said it was a sad state of affairs but having experienced first hand the disgraceful behaviour and disgusting greed of so many morons at the outflows I'll not mourn its loss .It takes a bit to get anglers to the stage they'd give away their venues freely but many people were driven that far .

Hopefully the Bass will now proliferate and a few make their way round to the North wall,Throbshire etc and we'll see some nett benefit from this closure :thumb:

Totally agree there Blanko...

Completely mental it was allowed to go on for so long really. As you say the issue was being able to prove they had done anything wrong... Now, if they are caught with a rod and line down there they should hopefully be prosecuted - Fish or no fish!

They really need to lock the far gate for a start so there is only one way out... ???

Don think they can think that a public right of way could be wrong but i am sure thats why it was unlocked again!

If I am wrong lock it and add barbed wire above that will stop them then!

Whilst I would not suggest any of us approaching anyone clearly breaking this ban, who do we ring to report any breaches please so perpetrators can be captured red handed.
Cheers
