We were moving quietly. the pair of us moving along the bank .midges looking to bite any exposed flesh. as we hit the over grown areas of the river bank I was told turn your rod round reel forward helps not to damage your rod before we reach the river..as we got to the river area we were going to fish we sat for 5 ..watch the water..don't rush in slowly does it till you reach your point were your going to fish..we attached our flies I had a 9ft rod and my reel was loaded with //6 floating line and 5lb hook lenth to the fly..my first time out fly fishing I've put this off for just over 3 years we were on the ribble thigh deep the water was clear as gin and warm as we'll hundreds of small fish were in shouls passing by my waders all about my feet,and the rocks and pebbles on the river bed..the river wasn't deep nor was it running very fast but the sun was bounceing of it like it was a mirror..I am glad I had donned the shades wich I was warned off in advance. My casting teqnique was not great with words of encouragement from further passed me ..we could see fish riseing all round us some times a splash or a plop in the water sometimes a ripple then gone but not my fly a sage I think was the make but don't quote me on that .we were we'll down on the river half way out and the it felt like your part of it ,your part of the river you see and hear so much the wildlife so close swallows and swifts by the hundreds..(( we'll loads)) never seen so many skimming the water taking flys heading straight at me like a missle, turning at the last few seconds to avoid a collision.the smell, the sounds, truly I have to say a amazing experience 4 hours gone ..the flys were hanging on as the sun set and I never realised just how fast time passed.. I was so immersed with the whole effort in fooling a fish to take my make believe fly.. I never noticed the time,, only the whole of the river going by. I have to say I personally have never been as chilled fishing as I was on the ribblelast night ..fair play to the man who goes down to the river and fly fishes and catches his fish..I loved every minute and I really look forward to the next session... can't wait.. in the mean time it's down the playing field practise ,practise ,practise get this casting better..with the odd words of encouragement and know how.. cheers P for the experience, patience.and time. .a lot to learn

Excellent stuff Shane I love all forms of angling and try to be as much of an all-rounder as possible but fly fishing for wild fish is undoubtedly my favourite approach. Minimal gear, maximum skills and enjoyment. Add in fly tying and entomology and it's a vast area of exploration and experiment. I think every angler should at least try it

Your certainly bob on the mark there liphook,,,and I am glad I tried it and yes every man who fishes should give it a bash at some point...I will be giving it a few more bashes and then I am led to believe winter it's grayling fishing sounds intreasting ...better get my act together
