The not so great Dane
Today was to be fly fishing on the River Dane in deepest Cheshire
So travelled super light, just the Sharpey Shakey rod and my new gamekeepers bag.
Arrived at Brooks farm where you park and introduced myself to the farmer,a thoroughly nice man who told me where to park and pointed out the way to the river.
"Go round the potato field, through the gate down the hill into the valley and the Danes there,he said"
Worlds biggest potato field
So twenty minutes later reached the gate and about half a mile down a very steep hill was the river, too much and too far so back to the car
Drove to Toft village next and visited the pond at the stately home of Toft Hall.
Totally covered in weeds
You could have walked over the pond the weed was that bad.
Desperation setting in now so off to Mobberley pool, hoping that the one peg you can cast a fly rod from was free.
Free it was so set up and finally got some fishing in
Fished a floating line with a little red n white okey dokey on the tip.
Wasn't long before a take and a little roach landed
A decent little perch soon after
Nothing major but great fun on the little fly rod.
Got to use my vintage John Wheatley fly box and had plenty of casting practice as well.
Had a lovely three hours in the sun and my beards growing back as well
A great day

Re: The not so great Dane
I say my good man, what on earth is one doing catching those awful coarse type fishes on ones fly rod..?? Good grief, one Izaac Walton would spin in his grave..!! Hee hee... Quite a trip mate exploring the depths of Cheshire, good to see you caught, even little fish would go well on that little rod.. Lovely day to be out too, if maybe a bit warm. Well in pal, now to psyche yourself up for next Saturday....
P.S. Get any spuds..??

There's more to fishing than catching fish...
