The great fly tying comp

Postby grandadruss » 20 Jun 2016, 17:02

Well I upped and sent two flies to a fly tying competition, charity comp and you had to send two flies, one dry and one wet tied with a specific list of materials.
Lots of goodies sent in for a raffle and all flies sent to be raffled off for a good cause.
All entrants names were kept secret and you were allocated a number, all flies photographed and no voting for your own fly, :banghead:
I was number three and here they are :D

As it was for a really good cause and I had nothing to send for the raffle I stated that if I came in the last three I would send Jim a tenner for the charity.
Results posted today

So a tenner on the way but to get one vote competing against some class fly dressers :cheer: :cheer:

Nice one Russ, Keep at it and see if you can get more points in the next one. Try to use more Earthy colours next time Browns, Greens ETC with a few legs attached, They are a bit more realistic than using brighter colours. Also they are more to impress Humans than Fish :yeah2: :yeah2: :yeah2: :thumb:

Thanks all for the congrats, much appreciated :D
It was a first for me as I've just followed a recipe in a book in the past so to speak and to get a specific list of 14 materials and told to tie a wet n dry fly was a bit of a challenge.
All 14 materials laid out on the table and no instructions to follow. ???
All flies sent in were scrutinised and any flies with materials used that were not on the list were binned so it was nice to get an email saying your flies had passed inspection and were in the comp :D
List of prizes posted tonight and 12 very nice prizes won....as I came 16th I wasn't on the prize list :banghead: :banghead:
To be fair most winners have refused their prizes and have asked for them to be put in the raffle.
A great cause for the Make a Wish childrens hospice.
Great fun :thumb:
