Sunderland Point and the sherpa
Virgin territory.................. well that's what it was for the three of us who travelled up from Blackpool. This was new to us and we had to cut our teeth at Sunderland Point.
Though we had a bit of spiritual help from our new clan member...Matty aka (Jammygit), Welcome aboard young man Being a local lad he soon had us sat in the right places.
We met at Asda and followed Matty down the lanes to our venue. Which consisted of a road that is submerged by a high tide. Looking at the banks of mud on either side it looked a good place to dig a days supply of creeper.
This is the view back down the road..
and the warning sign..
The view from the parking area..
Matty gave us a choice of places to fish and opted for the least muddiest. This was at the end of Second Row, which is the houses that are split into two groups..
Yes we were fishing on large rocks and guess who had to fall over
There was a few interesting features along the river..
Downstream on the other bank, a lighthouse, which is another good venue to fish..
Soon enough we had set up and ready to start. As the tide flooded, there was not a lot of pull and decided to switch to watch leads. It didn't take JP long to land a fish, though way too small. Matty also landed a postage stamp. While me and Bagger looked on.
Eventually I hit into the dinky Flounder and Bagger was feeding the crabs.
It took a while for something insize to show and JP did the biz..
Matty & Bagger were still hopeful and giving it their full attention..
So was John, he seemed to be on a mission today..
He was...! and soon had numbers two & three..
Matty landed a 36er and chucked it back in the excitement without a pic
high tide was looming and we didn't have much to show for our efforts. The bites we did have were finicky at best and a bit of bait twitching couldn't do any harm. It soon paid dividends..
If it worked once, surely it would again..
Third time lucky..
By now the tide was bombing out and the wired leads had to be reinstated. Matty decided to catch a different species. Overjoyed with his new acquisition...
JP was in full swing and making sure he got the best from his trip north..
Matty decided to give him a run for his money..
We all cast out for the last 15 minutes, as the bites were increasing. Typical as the match was ending
We all wound in at the end, I had a crab, Bagger fed the crabs, Matty landed an eel and JP caught the biggest flounder of the day at 38cm..
Yes...he had to smile for the camera as his mugshot will be going in the local rag.
Did we have a good day....You can bet your bottom dollar we did. Thanks go to Matty for being our Sherpa for the day 8)
We will be back and maybe, just maybe, the fishing will be better :-)
Result..
1st...JP.........................247cm...10pts...Well Done 8)
2nd..Jammygit...............126cm....7pts
3rd..Shacky.....................93cm....5pts
4th..Bagge Barnes..1pt.

Excellent report Shacky, cracking pictures of a good day out.
Matty AKA The Snig should charge a fee to take people over that road,he'd make a good living out of guiding
I love Sunderland but hate that road especially when it's muddy and slippy.
Good read mate,enjoyed it.

Looks like a decent day for you fellas,a few caught. Did you lads fish peeler, sometimes they won't have nothing else at that mark, they would rather starve.?? Nice pics mate.

Most of the fish came out on peeler. Though the crab are now turning cannibalistic in the Lune. That time of year
