Skate V Smooth Hound V Padsta V Matty
Fancied a trip before the weather breaks so I rang my love child Matty Preston to see if he could get a pass out for the day and behold Lady Charlotte said yes.He was on the dog and bone like a shot arranging details.
I dug a load of blow lug on fri aft and Matty got some squid, and bacon sausage, and buns for lunch the squid was for fishing before anyone asks. High water was 10/10 so not to a early of a start, got to the slip at 9/30 and quickly launched the boat I thought why not let Matty drive, big mistake with one twist of the throttle he nearly had us on the rocks sticky bum time.

He eventually got the hang of it and headed towards my fav plaice spot. It was high tide now so had to wait for the tide to drop before the plaice started to feed but chucked in any way just in case we got lucky we didn't. Eventually the plaice made a appearance but not as big as they should have been but a few takers a the same
And Matty finally started
After hearing there may be a few skate about we up anchored and steamed towards the stone jetty hoping for one or two within 10 mins Matty was in to a skate on a flatty rig he got it to the side of the boat and it slipped the hook Matty was not happy. There was a match on the West End Beach so we moved away before they arrived. Only moved a few hundred yards and Matty had another Skate on squid and lug cocktail
By now he was shakin worse than Elvis big smile all over his baby face
This time he rigged up a proper Skate trace within another 10 mins he's away with another this one was a double fig one. It put up a almighty struggle on a 12lb class rod Matty couldn't believe his luck.

As the tide ebbed towards low water all fishing stopped so time for a bite to eat while I cooked Matty pumped a few worms
Matty managed a huge Black Lug so fried it up nice on a bun
As the tide flooded the fish mostly plaice came hard and fast all rods pulling down every few mins
The sun started to set so headlights at the ready it's a different world when the lights go out at sea.
I had a few soft back crab I foraged for the day before hoping for a Bass tied one on only to hook a nice starry smooth hound about 8lb
Shortly after another screener on crab this time a bigger fish my poor little carbon fibre rod was bent double and going from side to side.
We had a couple of good fishing hours before things went quite again so time to head back to the slip way and home after a great days fishing and the Craic was good as usual.
I wonder if Matty wi want to come again
Got back on the slipway safely in the dark, but Matty had to rush of his curfew had run out got to keep Lady Charlotte on side.
We had one of the best days fishing I've ever had in Morecambe Bay and never ventured past the Stone Jetty. Just amazing. I hope this report makes sense absolutely knackered and arms are aching due to to many big fish ha ha.
I think Matty deserves a front page photo of his 10lb Skate over to admin.

Fantastic report and pictures Terry, that's what you call a red letter day. It's got to be one of the best AA posts from Morecambe Bay for a long time, home safe with a big smile, well done to you both.
