Silecroft Saturday.
My lad was playing a football match in Haverigg on Saturday morning so I decided to pack the rods and have a sesh up the coast at Silecroft beach. After watching my lads team loose 20-0 (under 11's footy can be so cruel) we set off for the beach. We arrived at the car park about two and a half hours before high tide, parked the car at the far end by the toilet block and walked straight onto the beach there.
The weather was glorious, the sea was flat calm with only a breath of wind coming from the North.Bait we had was fresh blow lug, frozen black lug and makerel. The first hour was fishless, we tried all the baits in all combinations but nothing until about half hour before high water,my lad reeled in to check/rebait his hook and dragged in an under sized flounder caught on fresh lug.I quickly reeled in and changed to fresh lug bait and cast back out.Ten minuets later my lad had another flounder on, again under sized. This went on until high tide with me thinking I was destined for another blank until i had the faintest of twitches on the rod tip, I waited and waited but it didn't go again so I reeled in to re-bait thinking the crabs had picked it off, when I got it to the beach the rod went mad, to my suprise I pulled out a decent plaice my first in three sessions, NO BLANK !!!!!
We carried on fishing until an hour after high tide with me catching another good plaice.
Final tally was three flounder for my lad and two good plaice for me. I will definately be fishing the beautiful Silecroft beach again soon (when there's a good bit of surf and wind about).
