Sandside
Sandside, on the Kent Estuary, further upstream from Arnside. It’s very picturesque and a nice easy place to fish. You literally fish right next to your car, particularly handy for anyone who cannot walk very far, or if you’re taking youngsters out to try their hand.
Don’t need to cast very far here, if you’ve blow lug, rag or just mackerel, all will catch flounders, occasionally an eel. Fresh lug with mackerel tip will always win, a simple flapper rig will do. Back end of year is best, but anytime will produce odd flounders.
The channel runs within 20 metres of the roadside and you fish from the pavement, or near the Ship pub you can fish off the grass. Beware of the tide, you need a big tide to fish here, over 8.5m but there’s a problem or two, firstly, there’s a hell of a current on the bigger tides. A worse problem is the road floods when the biggest (over 9m) tides have the wind behind them, especially at the triangle junction into the village along to the Ship, although not dangerous, be careful.
Looking from 'the triangle' towards the Ship Pub.
Small plea to anyone fishing on the pavement, there have been recent complaints to the parish council, regarding anglers blocking the footpath both with their gear and their cars. The roads nice and wide so absolutely no need to put car on pavement, please put rods at an angle so pedestrians can get past. Easy enough and everyone’s happy, although it can get busy, particularly at weekends.
Of the two I would personally fish Arnside rather than Sandside, you only get an hour or so either side of high water here, but if you fancy a couple of hours fresh air or you have a youngster who want’s to have a go, it’s a nice spot. About 300 metres of fishing off the roadside.
If you’re travelling any distance the easiest way by car is M6 junction 35 then A6 north to Milnthorpe, at traffic lights in Milnthorpe turn left and follow road alongside estuary, as you pass the Ship pub, this is Sandside.
Last picture it's from the end furthest away from 'the triangle' at the bottom of Storth Road and is the best area to fish @ the moment (Jan 2010)

Another great post Baz
Make a difference - take home one piece of someone's angling litter next time you are out fishing
