New to a multiplier advice and tips on using one

Hi Everyone

I've decided to move onto a multiplier reel for the first time ever, I've bought myself a Daiwa SL20SH and teamed it up with a 13' 6" Daiwa Sandstorm, I've loaded the reel with Trabucco XPS Velvet reel line in 20lb BS, I'm happy with this set up but haven't got a clue as where to start in regards to using the multiplier any advice and tips would be much appreciated

The set up sounds ok , but if your going to be casting 5 & 6 ounce leads I would add a Shock leader for safety . On my reels, I use ASSO 18LB Main line with 18lb to 70lb ASSO Tapered leader . If its your first time casting a multi , find a field or quiet beach you can practise on . On your first cast put the breaks full on , and ease of the breaks has you get better . Try and cast smoothly and not jerk the rod which could cause a birdsnest . I would also get a tennis ball and put a split in it and put your lead in it . This way you will see where its going plus it will make it easier to retrieve the lead , plus stop it getting stuck in the ground .

forget the lead and get a baseball .. there 6oz .. it's how i learnt .. 5-6 hrs on a field a few time and your golden .. you tube has some great vids

Thanks for the reply much appreciated yes forgot to say I would be using a shockleader, great tip about using a ball, I will be trying out this weekend either in local farm field or Lytham beach will let you know how I get on, just one more question on the dreaded bird nest if I get one which I'm in no doubt will happen do I cut the line and start again or can they be removed etc?

If you get a bird nest and its not to bad you can unpick it . When you cast keep a eye on it and has it goes to hit the ground put your thumb on it . this will stop the line backing up on its self

All good advice above. My penny worth would be to tighten up the spool so as not to having it running to freely. Good way to achieve this is to tackle up with a weight fitted and release the clutch, if it drops like a stone, then tighten up the spool till it just holds the weight, then just a little flex (little tap) of the wrist should see the weight drop to the floor.

Thanks to all for advise and sorry for late reply been very busy over last few weeks, well took on your advise and the tennis ball one was great thanks, since then I've been out and fished with the multi and as of yet no birds nest, not the best of cast with it yet training in progress etc etc but getting more confident with it, once more thank you all much appreciated.
