Fort Perch Rock yesterday

Postby billbob » 19 Jun 2019, 10:36

Fished the low water at Fort Perch Rock yesterday evening. I just took fresh peeler, frozen peeler, and fresh black. I had a Welshman to my left and two locals to my right.
The flow was quite strong as I started 3 hours before low. My plan was to save my crab until i saw someone catch a thorny or a hound. I just fished one rod with the flapper and fresh black. Straight away I was into fish, dabs and whiting. Some of the whiting were keeper size and I had a couple of double headers.
About an hour before low the Welsh guy had a small thorny . I then launched my crab bait on a pulley pennel and continued with my fresh black for more sport and continued to catch. As I put a fish back in the water I had a massive pull down on the crab. I am sure the tripod would have been pulled over if I hadn't been in close attendance. I started to draw the fish in from out of the channel drop off but became snagged. I gave it slack line but could only manage a metre or two back before snagging again. Tried everything but eventually it cane to a hard pull and my 12lb hook length snapped. I was gutted.
Went on an all out crab assault. My neighbours each side had thornie. Eventually I loaded all my crab onto my rigs but they didn't hold in the current and I started to pack up. With one rod in the bag I started to reel the second in and was pulling what I thought was weed.. I could see it about 40 yards up river planing on the surface and then I heard my neighbour shoutvin a thick Scouse accent. "It's a thorny".
