What is the diameter of the push rod on an alvey long and slim as I am looking at replacing the wingnut with a nylock one

I’m thinking of joining the “Pump your own Worms Brigade”. Last time I dug worms was years ago with a spade.
Any more info on the pumps would be great. I read about wide, slim & long bore pumps. I will mainly use one on the fylde coast.
So what would be the best recommendation. Your advice would be much appreciated :thumb:

Alley long and slim pump is the best. I have one from Brooks Fleetwood which is very similar but I get on better with the Alvey. The Brooks comes with a nyloc nut but be careful with the Alvey I think the thread is different.
Everything is OK

Steer well clear of the wide bore one Shacky its very hard work. Can't really comment on the alvey long and slim yet as I have had only outing with it and this was in December and the worms were not playing ball but looking forward to using it when the weather warms. The long version seems to be the go to as the standard is pretty short even by my standard and I'm only 5ft 8. Last year I must of saved loads of money with the copper 22MM pump I made as some sessions I was burning through 100 - 120 worms (Skellies not blacks) and at worms £4 a pack it makes sense to gather your own bait.

As said, go long & slim Iain. The initial outlay soon gets paid for. I'm on my 2nd pump now in 12 years. Saved a shed loads of money with pumping 80 to 150 worms in 2 hours the norm.

I would challenge your claim to be the worst Charlie, I recently bought one of the Brooks, I think its 28 mm. Not had much chance to use it yet, but it does seem to be very well made and they offer after sales service. ( not needed yet)
