MSA Heysham March 2014
Heysham Rock Mark March 2014
3 members of Milnrow sea anglers fished Rocks off Heysham targeting the Early Plaice within Morecambe Bay
After picking up some Black and Blow lug from Gerrys we set up as the tide was flooding and sent out baits on rigs with a bit of bling to attract the plaice. To be honest the water was very murky so don’t think the bling made much difference.
We fished 2 rods a piece with 1 up 1 down rigs or flappers and didn’t have to wait long before the rod tips were moving to the sign of bites.
First fish in were the target species Plaice and they were a decent size getting on for a pound in weight. They were nice plump fish and didn’t look like they had spawned
We started to get small codling up to about a pond in weight and there were plenty of them, we also had a smattering of small Whiting to add variety.
Some better Plaice made an appearance with fish of around a pound and a half which were nice looking fish and half a dozen made it to the cool box for a trip back to Rochdale.
I also managed a small dab the only one of the day
Rough estimates on the numbers of fish for the 3 of us were Plaice 45, best 1 lb 10ozs. Codling 50 best 1 lb 8 ozs, whiting 20 small pin whiting, dabs 1 small , Numbers are approximate as its difficult to count when you fish 2 rods and catch fish 2 and 3 at a time.
The bites were constant right up to and after high water but we packed up about half six as it was starting to go dark
A great days fishing with loads of fish caught
