Gynn Wall 13 Sep
Toyed with Rossall but a nice gully caught my attention while trying to get some worms so a change of plan. Getting slightly better with the pump, but it’s lucky I’ve got a day job! I managed around 20 after a couple of hours, so enough for the session, but my arm knows about it today.
I had to wait a while before the tide covered a bank in front of me, much longer than I thought I’d be waiting, but around 2200 I was able to get a cast out. First chuck it was still a little shallow and I picked up a bit of weed. Second cast the rod settled for a few mins before dropping back nicely. A good weight on the end and the characteristic thumping of a ray brought the first fish of the night. Not big, but at around 2lb welcome all the same. It was accompanied by two tiny whiting on the other hooks, something we’ll have to get used to for a few months I suppose.
Next cast and I barely had time to bait a spare trace before the rod pulled over. More jagged thinpsnthis time and a few mins later a nice schoolie that was just about sizeable was in. Next cast another thornie, this was a little bigger. Turning out to be a good night. I was considering two rods, but my lack of worms and barely having time to bait spare traces meant I stuck with just the one.
A few casts of whiting and I had a nice little plaice before the dogs turned up and pretty much ruined it. I think I had about 7 or 8 of them interspersed with whiting before I decided enough was enough and knocked it on the head.
Lovely night to be down there, plenty of fish and a little bend In the rod. Can’t be bad.
