Fleetwood Channel 12/7
After last Sunday's match at Knott End and realising had not managed to catch an eel this year after 8 tries in various estuaries decided to have a go at Fleetwood yesterday.
Fished last two and a half hours of the ebb and an hour and a half of the flood.
Weather was overcast and smallish tide meant that the run was not to bad and there was no weed showing
Fished near the Lifeboat Pen, used 2 rods one set up with standard 2 hook flappers with size 2 hooks and the other learning form last Sunday using flappers again but one with size 4 hook and the other with size 6 hooks to see if I could connect with the small eels.
The rod with the small hooks was cast in front of the lideboat pen close in, while the other was fished in the channel. Bait was peeler crab, black worm and Bluey.
Well first cast in front of the pen produced a little flounder but on the light rod still produced a good bite
After another small flounder the size 6 rig produced the goods a little bootlace eel on worm all of 20cm but it was an eel
Just after sorting that one out had another small eel this time from the main rod bit better at about 30cm on crab.
Next up was on in-size flounder again on crab from further out.
Picked up a few more small flounders from the pen area but was impressed by the colour variations, doesn't
show up as clearly on the photo but for small fish they did look spectacular.
Then had another eel with no chance of losing it as it managed to completely lasso itself in the rig, oh well another rig bites the dust
Just before I a double header of small flounder and best eel of the day 45cm+ and laying them on their backs does work to keep them still again caught from in front of the Lifeboat Pen.
Ended the day with 9 flounders, although only 2 would have troubled the weigh master in a match and 4 eels. Unsurprisingly peeler was the best bait but diod catch on both black and bluey.
Although not big fish enjoyed myself with light tackle and mission accomplished in catching an eel

Wells done on the slimers ! Nice to see a showing of them again , they must be bouncing back from a noticeable decline over the years ,I have been fishing the spot in question all my life and I think the efforts in fish/eel friendly access to the rivers in Cumbria may have a part to play, along with many other factors too obviously .
