first session of the year mersey
charlie and myself decided to try our first session of the year tonight down at the town hall steps as the temperature had risen a degree or two and no rain was planned unlike the forecast for the rest of the week.
charlie decided to stick with his trusty two hook flappers and i opted for a pulley pennel.
charlie used a selection of baits with straight blacks being the most successful choice i stuck with squid and lug sausages
arrived four hours before high setup and waited for the water to come in over a cuppa tea
charlie was first in with a little dablet blank beaten
i was getting loads of quick rattles but not connecting with anything
i was certain it was smaller fish unable to take the larger baits
charlie kept pulling in the dabs steadily through the session and ended with 14 dabs some where that large i thought they where flounders at first, he finished with a solitary whiting at the end, it’s usually the other way round but the dabs seemed to be out in force!
i ended with 4 dabs and one of them had a big chunk out it’s back from a previous war wound
was a really enjoyable night and we where both extremely glad to get out the house as it’s been horrible stuck in.
