Bristol Channel PB,s

well after wasting days on end along chesil in recent weeks I thought I would chance it over on the Bristol Channel,a 2 hour early doors trip saw me arrive @ Portishead slipway around 7am,like this mark for Thornies but the target for today might also turn up having had small codlets from here before.

Image

I had treated myself to a pair of shimano Power Aero 14000,s XSB reels and this was their first day out, what a start, after a steady bite I was soon playing a lovely Thornie, set the clutch easy and as It kited across the slipway there was a comforting click from the clutch.....very smooth reels so that was one christened..........

1st cast on double calamari squidly on a pulley pennel saw my PB Thornie from the channel
@ 9lb 10oz......

after leaving half a dozen rigs as payment on the snaggy seabed it didn't get any better as I could not buy another bite,so after fishing 2 down 1 up I was offski to Reelfun in Portishead to see Steve, lovely fella who has always sorted me some top bait,i got some Blow Lug and a few Rag .....
I took a quick look @ Battery Point but could not get on my favourite spot so drove 30 mins north to
Severn Beach my other favourite slipway venue......

Image

once on the slipway I just wanted to fish 3 up before heading home before dark, big lug bait on one rod and double squid tipped with Blow lug on tuther.......it was snag city as my first casts met with certain death as I could not shift the pulley pennel rigs dammit.....

I dropped the next double squid about 40yds and a quick nag to er indoors was cut short as some serious nodding on the rod tip followed by a proper drop back saw me playing a proper Piggy it plodded around in front of me and knowing the rox in front of me I was worried it would snag.....after a bit more faffing about with the clutch setting ...it was ready......
The next wave saw me drag my biggest Cod from the Bristol Channel shoreline @ 15lb 4oz

absolutely over the moon......I have not been to the channel for a season or two and todays coddy
was long over due.........ok again nothing else showed up so I called it a day around HW.

3 hours in the evening traffic and I was home with my prize.

so my visit to the channel saw a PB Thornback from the venue and my best ever Cod from any shoreline
a day to remember !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus I christened both new reels and am so far happy with their performance.

well chuffed.

Gazza

Well done. That is a fish that we all dream of catching but few of us do. Again really well done.
