Anyone Catching?

Postby benhben » 30 Jul 2019, 12:53

Has anyone in the North West had any luck on lures so far this summer? I've had 5 or 6 lure sessions around Morecambe Bay now and had absolutely nothing. I havent even seen any signs of life such as fish jumping.

Either I'm fishing the wrong marks at the wrong tide or lure fishing in Morecambe Bay is a pointless task. I'm beginning to think the latter.

Off to cornwall for a weeks fishing trip in september so hopefully that will be more succesful.

Anyone else been out?

Had a small bass off Throbshaw Point on a sandeel lure a couple of weeks back on my second go at lure fishing - beginner's luck. I just fished half an hour at slack high water on a calm evening while keeping an eye on the main rods. You see occasional reports of people getting a few decent bass but for obvious reasons they're very cagey about where and when.

Most of the time the water is coloured not good for lure fishing at certain times the Bay is clear so the fish can see the lures better.

:thumb: In my experience you need clear water, and some bird life on top f the water or above in he sky, is a good indicator with and signs of attacking frenzies, or fish jumping out the water, - bass , sand eels, white baill it, mackerel etc :thumb:

So all in all it’s not very often that such conditions occur in the north west but but I’ve done ok in the past at Anglesey - Penmon Point and Eyemouth in Scotlland. :thumb:

April was pretty good. May June, July were ok. Best fish being a 64cn. June. Had two 62,s a 59 an 60. Bigger ones on smoke Senkos. Had to work hard for them. Camping for two nights most weeks In the summer. August, September and October was dire with many blanks. I normal do really well in September.
Fished 3 times in November didn't blank but biggest was 52c.

Lots of bass down on previous years despite fishing longer and harder.
Strangely enough I've enjoyed my fishing more than ever. Immensely good fun fishing camping with a few good mates
