A Year on the Bay

Postby StevieA » 31 Jul 2019, 09:41

My name is StevieA and I’m an angling addict. During my first year of sea fishing, this is what I’ve learned:

Everyone hates weevers and eels until all you’re catching are weevers and eels.

You’re supposed to mount tip lights pointing toward you, duh!

When smooth-hounds are present, slacken off the drag. Now. Do it now. Do it... oh, too late.

Do not fish the Grosvenor platform on a winter’s night during a fresh westerly on a 10m tide.

If everyone treated each other as anglers do, the world would be a kinder, safer place.

Your clothes, car, shed, tackle box, fridge and freezer stink. Basically, you totally stink.

You will always choose to fish near, but not quite near enough, the best place to fish.

Smooth-hounds fight like the devil; thornback rays fight like a lump of lard.

Whiting are like lemmings, except they leap out of the sea.

The next world war will be fought between anglers and jet skiers.

In the right hands, a lugworm pump is worth its weight in gold. In the wrong hands, it’s worth its weight in minced worm tails.

The cod are always coming but never arriving.

In the sea angler’s world, nothing can be said to be certain, except weed and crabs.

And finally, any angler who seeks to engage you in casual conversation is about to show you a picture on his phone of the large cod or bass he just caught at the mark you almost decided to fish but didn't.

Totally agree Steve. Weed at the moment is worse than jet skies and seals. :gp:

Well done Stevie, I think that parts of your post will form part of my obituary when the time comes, especially the stinky bit.
