There was a time when Thornback Rays were one of the main bread and butter species around much of the UK. Then, due to commercial over exploitation, population numbers crashed. Currently they are making a come back in some, though not all parts of the country. So in an effort to better understand their population structure and plan for their long term future, scientists at Liverpool Museum aquarium are undertaking an extensive tagging project on the River Mersey.
